Why are the media reaching so hard to discredit Palin already?

On CNN, in a half hour's time they've tried to discredit Palin by saying: 1) She has a child with Down's Syndrome, and this might detract from the amount of time she can spend on official duties, and 2) A low-level staff member in her office might have called and ask that a State Trooper be fired, behind her back.
